Firedisc

Postby TxSquarebody » Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:21 am

I picked up a barely used firedisc for next to nothing the other day. It does have one slight issue. It acts like the propane is wide open all the time. It throws a flame four feet high with the disc off of it. So, two questions: is the gas orifice located in the burner or regulator? Do you think simply changing the regulator will get it running properly?

Photos? Would sure seem the regulator might be at the heart of the issue, it determines how much gas volume is being pumped out and a flame that high would take a lot of propane.

I'll get some photos this evening. From the regulator to the burner is a 3" long 1/4" nipple with out an orifice. Didn't know if it had the orifice downstream or incorporated into the regulator, but it does flow some propane!

Often times the orifice on a propane burner is nothing more than the end of the blank fitting or valve being drilled out to the size needed. unscrew the fitting on the end of the burner and check there. Also check to see if there are any bugs made a nest in the burner spiders and dirt dobbers will wreak havoc on an outside burner.

Here are a few pics of what I'm working with. I compared to my crawfish burner. It has a small orifice attached to the hose that screws into the burner. The firedisc regulator extension is wide open!ImageImageImage

Firedisc website shows the burner and regulator. The orifice is supposed to be in the end of the pipe that screws into the burner. I am not sure what that is in the bottom of your burner but the firedisc burner is just a mounting stud.

Sure enough! I knew there was an orifice somewhere. I'll see if it fell out into the mix chamber of the burner. Thank you!

You are very welcome Sir.
Worst case buying a new setup is not that bad of a price.

I see they are out of stock on the regulator.
Here is another source I found.
