Grill Recommendations

Postby Rascal BBQ » Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:25 am

I am planning on expanding my grill inventory of which is just one currently and would like some opinions on the pits I am considering (currently the Weber duo is my choice)
1. Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker either the 22 1/2 or the 18 1/2 - is the bigger one really worth the money + 26 3/4 Weber Kettle Cooker.
2. Charcoal grill/smoker with offset firebox

Opinions appreciated :laughing7:

I am no authority on this subject by any means but i have a 22.5 WSM and a 22.5 OTG and i cannot imagine anything better for the money, I have seen a 18.5 and a 22.5 WSM side by side and i would spend the extra green for the 22.5, much more grilll space than it sounds like, I had a cheap offset smoker at one time and it was not something i would recommend, I believe your making the right choice :salut:

+1 on the 22.5 wsm. I have the 18.5 and I can't tell you how many times I wished that thing was just a couple inches wider.

You said grill yet you mention both a grill and a water smoker, although there are a whole mess of WSM's out there turning out Great "Q" I just don't get all warm & fuzzy over them. Now that 26.5" kettle is IMO the deal large cooking area and and you can smoke on it to, I have turned out some dynamite "Q" on a 22 OTS for years now it supplements the arsenal.

What's the budget? How many folks do you typically cook for? Grill or a smoker or dual use?

how big of a foot print is acceptable? if the only ? is whether to get a 18vs a 22, the ngo with the 22. i hear that its real tough to open the 18 up to a 22. something about the metal not wanting to expand. haha
