Anyone using the Weber Char-Baskets in a Weber Kettle? If so, are you using lump or regular charcoal? Tried using lump this past weekend with the char-baskets doing the minion method but did not have a lot of success.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use them exclusively with briquettes. Lump is bigger and not very uniform, it does not lend itself to burn well in the baskets. If you are trying to smoke something, only light up a corner of each basket and let the kettle come up to temp. Monitor at first every half hour or so until you are comfortable that the temp has settled down and will burn steadily. That's my penny's worth You are in the right forum for answers and lessons, lots of q'ers here have a ton more experience than I do and I can say, I have learned a few things just reading! Good luck, hope the method works for you. :D

I have never used the baskets but I agree with bogiedr about controlling two fires. I got a slownsear and it's pretty easy to maintain temp with.

I appreciate the feedback. I agree that you can't use lump with them.
