Bluz,
In the People's Republic of Boulder folks worship at the shrine of recycling -its a quasi governmental institution  The trash companies are required to offer curbside recycling (cans, bottles, paper and compostables) and to encourage recycling they must bill the first can of trash at $N, the second at $2N and the third at $3N with recycling free.

If my neighbor can't help me, there are a couple other options to explore.

OK, I got a 15" X 35" inch piece of stainless steel expanded metal. What do I cut this stuff with and can I just bolt two pieces together or does it need to be welded?

A little late here, but this is really a great idea! The kettles really are great grills, especially for the price, and this just adds to their versatility.
