What is everyones opinion on my basket idea.
14" X 14" X 8" made from heavy expanded metal and 3" below the bottom of the basket a metal ash pan. It will also have a fixed hoop to the basket with a bend right in the top so I can grab it with a grab hook. Opinions welcome.

Re: Carcoal basket for UDS?
I made a couple square baskets for UDS's and found 13"X13" square seems to work the best. Otherwise it's hard to get it out of the drum past the grate supports and lets air around the basket better. If you take and measure point to point diagonally on a 14" square, you'll see why.
I found round baskets work better for me. A Weber kettle fire grate with the expanded metal attached to it works best for me. I also attach it 3" above the ash pan.
There are several pics in the build slideshows on my web site......

I whole heartedly agree that is how mine is constructed too.

Pretty much exactly like the one I have.
Custom vertical offset.

Re: Carcoal basket for UDS?
Thanks for the help. I think I'll cut it back to 13". I will try and get pics when and if I ever get it done. Seems I don't have don't have much time between working all day and tarping modules at night.
