Quick uds question
Quick question. I am building a uds and I can't remember how much above the the bottom of the charcoal basket the cooking grate needs to be. I found it on here before but can't seem to now.

Re: Quick uds question
for some reason, 24" sticks in my mind. Could be wrong though so don't take my word for it.

Re: Quick uds question
I don't have one but have thought about building one. Would a couple levels work - one close to the fire box for searing, another level with a diffuser, and still another for smoking? Or is searing on a UDS not practical?
Here is a link to some pics of UDS on the smoke ring http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13224
I kinda like the one with the cart and the obligatory bottle opener

Re: Quick uds question
I decided that building one of these things is high on my "things to do list" when I get home. Seems like everyone that has one loves the thing.

This is one source above .
I bought a set of plans if you want a copy I'll email them to you .
But I used the ones on "The Q Joint" to build mine and I tried the maginets and they didn't work for me so I found on another site how they built flaps for lack of a better word ,flat metal , bent in my vice , one 1/4" hole ,one body washer , one nut , one spring . Works for me

P.S .If you need pics let me know.

The ones in my album are from the Backyard Barbequer or something like that . The others are of a friends build and he is very careful .
