UDS?

Postby ROACHDADDY » Fri May 13, 2011 1:28 am

Ok I have seen this abbreviation on here and I haven't quite figured out what it means.

I am sure it is some kind of smoker/grill, but what are the pros and cons of it and best utilized for; and how much does it cost to build one?

I'm a complete newb when it comes to all these kinds of pits. I just have a New Braunfels smoker I got from Academy, but it does the job, but am always looking for better options if possible.

Thanks

Ugly Drum Smoker

Google is your friend - you will find loads of information on building one.

There are a few folks in this neighborhood that have them and may chime in.

I don't have one but it sure looks like a good economical smoker.

I fought building one for so long but I finally did it. I kinda went on the nicer side with a dome lid and such. I think with buying the grill (I used it for parts) the drum and all the hardware I'm in it for less than 75 dollars. My fire basket holds one 11lb bag of lump and it burned at 250 for 13hrs without touching it!!!! I think everyone should own at least two of them!!!!!!

Pros: More time to drink beer without babysitting a stick burner.
Cons: You have more free time to do the "Honey Do List" :P

To compare it to a manufactured smoker, it would be a WSM 22".
I own 3 of them, and built 7 or 8 and sold them.
I built all of mine with a dome top out of a Big Lots $30 grill. Use both grills and the top for build parts.

Less than $100 including the above grill.
