Pit Barrel Cooker

Postby TexasPitKing79 » Tue Oct 14, 2014 7:47 am

I was just wondering if anyone out there has got a Pit Barrel Cooker and what they thought about it? It's the one that you cook the meat hanging vertically. Thinking about gettin one.

I got one a couple months back and cooked on it 8 times and from the first cook I was a pro. Never had a bad cook as long as you follow the directions on the website. I use other rubs Namely Hog Waller from Sucklebusters.

Best $300 I ever spent.

bobcat - do you have any issues fitting a full packer in it? I know most people build UDS out of 55 gallon but I think these are 30. 30 gallon might be a good camping size for me.

Full racks of ribs are no problem. I don't see it being a problem but I haven't cooked one in mine yet.

granddad here a new member ok i did some thing a bit different i already had a custom modified drum smoker and access to more drums so i cut the top half off a drum about 1.5 inches below the top barrel ring now i take my grill grate and set it on top of my tall charcoal basket add my extension that has three rebar rods prominently 7 inches apart and shazam i saved $300.00 i just did a bbq for 45 people with 40lbs of tritip and pork loin turned out great and i had room for another 20lbs of meat on meat hooks i will add pics when i learn how good luck

I've cooked 3 of them now. You have to let the top lap over a little. I put 3 hooks in it all connected. Once the meat draws up I put it on the top hook. Man they turn out awesome. Not bragging but all my friends think I am a BBQ God and think I should open a restaurant. :chef:

I have one as well. One thing about the PBC is with it's hanging system you can cook 8 racks of ribs at once. And the set it and forget it design makes it one of the better options out there. I hem hawed on getting one instead of building one. In the end what made me pull the trigger on the PBC was the time to locate a drum, needed supplies and the time to build it vs ordering it and receiving it in a few days. Before I'd have a day off to merely get the supplies the PBC would be at .y front door.

I too wanted a PBC, actually looked at the gateway, and the barrelhouse. I wasn’t pressed for time so I built a UDS.just seemed like more fun to design and make it my own. Especially the colors.
