What would give more flavor and why, uds or vertical stick burner, both cooking H&F using charcoal and wood. Everything else the same.

I'm a novice but it seems to me that it depends on how and what you put under the meat and the type of meat - - - my ECB will cook H&F or L&S but the success depends on "ME" and my ability. Which we won't go into :laughing7: :D  :texas:

Call me a fool. I've had to do it before in WA, and use wood chunks. No access to oak or hickory.

I would choose a stick burner offset for flavor over anything else. The complete combustion of the fire leaves the best of the wood on the meat. Thin blue smoke and fast moving air, hard to beat.

Stick burner will give you better smoke flavor. I run charcoal in my offset, pretty much every time I use it. I guess I'm a fool for wanting to get a head start on a good bed of coals.

I have both and use both at home & at competitions. The offset does provide a better smoke flavor without question. But I've cooked briskets, beef ribs, pork butts, chuck roast, etc. on my drum and have no problem getting a good smoke flavor and smoke ring. I like to cook chicken on my drum but it cooks ribs really well too. I get light blue smoke out of each cooker. If I had to choose I would go with my offset but it'd be hard to part with my drum.

old topic but, I have a stick burning uds and a regular uds.
the stick burner, using a roaring fire, seems to have almost no smoke flavor.

the regular uds with charcoal and pecan chunks, is hard to beat.
