BEST BLOWER FOR UDS?

Postby The Bundling » Wed Jan 13, 2016 4:43 pm

When I was new to this world of BBQ I was dumb and purchased one of the most affordable blowers I could find. I went and got the old Pitmaster IQ (the one that does not tell you what temp it thinks it is at… you just have to trust it.). It does a few things right but its frustrating as heck. I want to get a new one. I mostly smoke on my UDS’s. I know many of you might be sponsored by some blower so im hoping to get honest answers on what I should get. Heres what im looking for
1: Budget $150-$300
2: durable (I tend to break things)
3: would love one that could send me updates wirelessly
4: tells me the internal temp
5: good for UDSs

thought I would post this in the UDS chat to see what UDS peeps say and the product one.

Man I've been cooking on my UDS for a few years now and I have never needed a blower. If you are thinking you do, maybe you just need more ventilation. Are you having problems maintaining temps or getting hot enough?

I agree with Erbeman. A properly built drum is truly a set it and forget it smoker. The only time I have to adjust anything on my drum is when it is really windy (lots of high gusts) but that's not often.

BBQ Guru has quite a few options. I have a Digi Q DX2 for my drum. I'm not sure if you can get a WiFi model for your price range. The guru isn't really necessary, but when I'm really busy it's awesome. It makes an efficient drum crazy efficient.

I have a couple of Digi Qs that I'll probably use at comps with my drums, but I've only used one on a drum once at home. I tested it, and thought it was just in the way because the drum was always rock solid without it.

I know this thread is from last month but.....

What issues were you having with the Pitmaster? I run a pitmaster IQ 110 on my WSM and have never had an issue with it. I use it in conjunction with a Maverick ET-733 so I always know what the temp is.

As far as wireless information... Igrill makes some cool toys. I know the Stoker system has WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. I'm not sure about the Digi Q's.
