What's the best way to knock the rust off these things? Drill w/ sanding disk, angle grinder, other?

Sent Big Ed a PM about the FB as well.

a drill and wire brush would certainly be the cheapest way to start - - -sure would be nice if there was someone in the area that could sand blast it for you

Hi bsooner,
I personally have a friend that owns a business in New Jersey that designed a ( rust remover ) unlike anything that I would bet anyone on this forum has seen.
So yourself and look it up, it is called ( safest rust remover ) from a company called ( ultra one ).
He's out of Hackettstown Nj.

Now, I'm going to mention something that I'm sure ALOT of you on this forum have heard of being from the south.
In 1957 Tulsa Oklahoma has burried a now famous car in the ground, a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere. It was unearthed in 2007 as a ( time capsule ).
Nobody realized that for 50 years the seal was leaking and when the car was lifted from the ground it was submerged in a rusty muddy water combination...

The reason I tell you about this car is because my friend ( Dwight Foster ) who is the owner/founder of ultra one was contacted to be the one to ( de-rust ) this actual car named the ( Miss Belvedere )
Not only is his rust remover the safest rust remover that you can work with, it targets ONLY rust and will get in areas that sand blasting will not. It is 100 % harmless to paint, wood,rubber,chrome,plastic,etc.etc.
It will target rust only.

I personally vouch for this product and use it every time I need to de-rust anything.
Check him out, he will even supply you with the msds info. It is truly a top notch product.
I guarantee this product will clean up that drum efficiently and safely as possible without breaking your bank. All you need is a small kiddie pool or a small tarp that can act a a holding tank or resiorvior to hold a few gallons of this rust remover and a small sump pump of some sort with a garden hose and you will get rust cleaned from every nook and cranny of that drum.

He works 7 days a week and here is his info. His web page has pictures of before and after. Just make sure that you are looking at his rust remover because he has a degreaser that he designed in the 80's which is another wonder on its own.

Good luck and I hope you check him out.

His name is Dwight.
Let him know Troy sent you his info and he will take care of you.

Sounds like a great product woodenvisions.

Bsooner if you decide not to go the ultraone route get you a crimped wire brush wheel and an angle grinder and you'll have her rust free in no time.

Thanks for the info woodenvision. I agree with a Fin that it sounds like a great product.

But…power tools sound like more fun :laughing7:

I gotta find the angle grinder. The garage is a mess since the move.

look under the hardest to get to place in your shop where you have to lift and move unhandy things to get to - - - - if your shop is like mine that would be the most likely spot - good luck

Thanks to the rain not bothering to check with my work schedule I haven't had a chance to touch this thing yet. Maybe this weekend.

Anybody know how much it would cost to have this drum sand blasted? Just trying to weigh all my options.

Might want to give a second thought on the product I told you about. 52$ worth of product plus shipping and a little ingenuity on keeping the surfaces wet overnight you will be surprised on how well it will look.
Another plus is that you won't have to do Any work at all and won't be taking any steel/metal away like u would blasting it.
I've used this dozens of times and it's proven itself every time.

Good luck bsooner
