I am also planning to build a uds. Have got a drum that has been used for pizzasauce.
It is a little narrower at the bottom than the top. Will that be a problem or is still usable?
The lid I got from an old weber seems to fit nice.
It is red inside but since it's used for pizzasauce it should be food safe (at least when cold) but I don't know what it will release when hot. Do you think I need to remove the red lining or is it enough with a couple of burn outs?

Re: Questions about drum
I'm still building or just starting mine. I don't think the barrel size will be a problem. I would also just do a couple burns in the barrel at a high heat, should cook it all right out, then wash and clean out after its cooled down.
