The Smokenator 1000

Postby CJATE » Sun May 30, 2010 3:02 pm

search did not turn up much.

Is this thing a joke, or does it work?

dad has a weekend place with another family. they had an old smoker w/o a fire box for 25+ years, but they kinda quit using it in lue of a kettle, I gave them a few years ago. I've told them MANY times, id fix the rust and put on a fire box if they want.

anyway; the other family is buying the The Smokenator 1000, and drilling a hole in the lid of dads kettle for the thermo.

first I've herd of this, do they work?

My dad has one. I talked him into cause, well he doesn't like bending over to add coals (Bullet smokers). He went to an electric ECB and then a vertical gas fired thing -both of which didn't give him the results he wants (did I mention he asks for advice and then doesn't listen to it :banghead:  ) Anyway, then I told him to get a ceramic but he got sticker shock. Then I suggested the smokenator it as there wasn't many alternatives left  He uses it, so he must like it.

don't know much about them at all, but it seems like it would work. seems like a decent thing for the price(55.00). especially if someone didn't want to buy a smoker and already had the weber.

The 2600 (the one for the 26.75" kettle) was actually my first smoker :)

These do a great job. They're not incredibly expensive (hey, that guy's gotta eat, too...lol), and they're handy on a kettle. I've gotten some really good cooks using them.

I have not used one all you need is a roll of Foil. If you cover the unused portion of the charcoal grate with foil it forces the air up and through the fire. it gives a whole new prospective to temp control and itis easier to add coals should you need to( no small hole to deal with.

For long cooks like 12+ hrs on butts or Brisket I use the ring of fire set up it is set & forget.

I have the Smokenator 1000 -- it does a pretty good job for what it is. Since I got the Primo XL, it doesn't see much use. I use the Smokenator if I want just a slab of ribs for me and SWMBO. Quick and easy.
