thermometors

Postby kurtaltenburg » Tue Mar 19, 2013 11:23 am

just ordered my new smoker out of oklahoma. Custom made but dos'nt include thermometor. iI've heard most of them are pieces of crap. Does anyone know of some high grade, industrial type thermometers that are fairly accurate and won't burn out immediately?

for exact temps I use the maverick 73 and732, The door thermometers I just use if i'm walking by and just to get an idea of where I'm at....but I think my next lid thermometer will be River country or similar...you can fine tune/adjust them and the price isn't that bad...this one even glows in the dark! I shopped around a little before I bought my Tel-trus for my new pit. I finally decided to buy them direct from the manufacturer just in case I have warranty issues or need to have them calibrated. The price want too bad either, around $30 ea, I got 4 with 3"dials, 2 with
6" stems and 2 with 2.5" stems

Both are good suggestions. Just a matter as to if you want the type that screw into the pit of if you want a digital/ wireless one. Mavericks are more accurate and of course you can carry the monitor inside and read the temp...

heck i'm thinking about taking my door thermometers out and using the hole to run the leads for my mavericks LOL might have to get some putty or something to keep from blowing all my smoke out though. The one thing that I would definitely look for on a door thermometer, regardless of the brand is to find one that that you can calibrate yourself.

I like my Fluke 2-channel TC readout for pit temp.
For meat temp, my cheapy Taylors.
They run closer to true than my Maverick.

I'm using an Acu-Rite Academy Sports $10
I dropped it a couple times so I picked up another just in case
so now I have two, I had them on a table in the garage a couple weeks ago
both registered 82F later that day the weather reporter announced it was 83 today
the original's three years old, digital readout

I've installed 2 Tel-Tru BQ300's and they seem to do the job
