Wife needs help re: Smoker Thermometer

Postby jpswife » Thu Jun 09, 2016 12:44 pm

Hey there! I hope this post doesn't come off too amateur, but I am needing some help on purchasing my husband a thermometer for his smoker. He built himself an ugly drum smoker and loves it. He has had a lot of success with it, and also some failures. He is constantly checking the thermometer, of course, and as you all know, has to get up in the middle of the night to put the meat on so it's cooked on time. I thought it could be helpful if he had a wireless thermometer so he can see the temp at all times without having to stand by the smoker for hours. I figured it could also help keep his results more consistent since I think the variations in deliciousness are due to temp problems. Any suggestions on a wireless or Bluetooth thermometer for around $100.00? Thanks for the help!

I have the IGrill2 and love it! It's right at $100. You download the app and view the temps on your phone as long as your within Bluetooth range. It's about a year old and I haven' t had any issues with it. I do recommend getting the additional grate temp probe (it comes with 2 meat probes).

Temp swings are normal relax & enjoy the ride. Your house oven swings more that a UDS. Get him a bottle of his favorite libation and tell him chill.

I really like my maverick. You can set high / low temp alarms as well as meat temp alarms:

Oh if only it were that easy!! :) This is a father's day gift. So not necessary, but I thought he might enjoy the added gadget.

Thanks everyone! The igrill and maverick were two I had looked at before. Glad to know others have had success with them.

A little. I know it only has 2 ports so you can only use 2 probes with it. The IGrill2 has 4 ports.

+1 on the maverick but I never use it anymore, since I got to "know" my cooker a little better...

Did my first cook with my iGrill2 this past week. Turned out to the best brisket I've ever cooked. Best money I've ever spent. If you go with this one, be sure to buy the ambient temperature probe to keep an eye on what's going on at cooking level.

I used to have the Maverick, then it quit working. I bought the inkbird with 6 probes and Bluetooth. Love it. I think it's around $60. Hope that helps.

I think maybe the thread would be a little bit too old for successful advices  , but if it is helpful, I can say that as well the IGrill Mini, the IGrill2, as well as the Fireboard https://www.fireboard.com/shop/fireboar ... ermometer/) are my favourites.
Maybe the Fireboard is the best and I bought it when it was a Kickstarter offer.
