Serving gloves?

Postby Dirty Dawg » Mon Feb 20, 2017 11:03 pm

I see folks using lot of what appear to be nitrile gloves in a variety of colors but my local restaurant supply only sells the usual clear vinyl food service gloves. My question is, are folks just using every day nitrile gloves that aren't necessarily food service rated or are there other manufacturers I'm not aware of? I'd love to use a heavier duty glove, just need to figure out what's available.

I use the exact same gloves. Not just for serving, but for all aspects of the cook. For hot things, and to preserve bark, I put those over some simple white polyester gloves -

The insulation allows me to pull them directly off the grill. Instead of a carving fork, I use the combo to hold the meat while I slice as well.

I have had a fright at an airport over a silly comment I made, I was checking in and a lady asked if I'd packed my bag myself, I said no, my friend Mohammed packed. Soon as I said it I thought, oh oh. The lady said I hope you're joking. I said I was just being funny, and didnt think. Lucky she just warned me about saying things like that, lol. My mate was relieved, he thought we aren't getting on the plane. All worked out and no animals were hurt.

This is basically what I've been doing but have used a cut resistant glove. I think the Wells Lamont gloves look better and are less expensive. I'm going to order some and give em a run. Looks like all the other gloves are basic nitrile, not food grade or some such, so I guess I'm good with what I have.Thank you all.

As for making inappropriate comments at inopportune times, I learned long ago in my previous 28 year career as a photojournalist that you never say "I'm here to shoot the President" when addressing the Secret Service. They really have no sense of humor about such things.
