Got a Smokemaster barrel smoker. Attached 2 pics, one of the smoker, and one of the door. Below is what I have been looking at..

Been also looking at DIY PID, but I'm not very smart at this kinda stuff. The options above, I would buy them no hesitation if they had adapters to go over my vent on my door. Looks like I would have to drill/cut hole for vent in my smoker? How hard is that to do? That is some thick steel my smoker. The Perfect Draft BBQ fan looks like the most robust fan, and got some pretty good reviews on youtubes... Read the smobot thread, that is awesome, don't think that would work on my smoker...

looks like you may be having problems posting pictures, I always have a picture of the items I want to post on my computer, then upload the file to the post.

I use a pellet muncher it is as automatic as a smoker can get in my opinion..

Went with the perfect draft fan. I installed it yesterday over the vent, on the side because of the vent handle. it performed really well.. I think ideally I cut a 4 inch hole just over the vent in the middle level with the fire.

Doing more testing today, this is probably gonna take me a few more beers before I get this all figured out.

always been a question of blowing air or sucking air, on the exhaust a fan would be needed to endure the heat kind of works between super or turbo..

Don't know which would be best but I lean toward blowing air into the firebox, what worries me is the electric motor getting too hot after a while and melting down or having a short half life compared to one that sucked from the exhaust side.

It shouldn’t get hot with that adapter, that is a new thing. If you look at some of the older videos, they used to put that blower right on the firebox. I can see how that would get hot, and that was obviously an issue is why they say use that adapter all the time.

I have not seen a fan that sucks air. I saw the smobot, that is not a fan, just regulates the exhaust vent. I would think a fan on the exhaust would take a toll with the heat and smoke.

I think I’m gonna drill a hole above the vent level of other the fire where it blows directly on the fire, I think it will perform much better, it will allow me to have smaller cleaner fire.

I'm probably wrong but unless they have a heat barrier and a real good one, when that box is fully heated, the door metal will get hot enough to toast that motor or at least reduce the life of the windings by a good margin.
I guess they can pull if off by using the incoming air to cool it down.

I ran it all weekend and did not notice the adaper getting hot muchless the fan, but was not really looking for that either. I check on that next time.
