Temperature Guage preferences

Postby Bluz » Mon May 25, 2009 8:36 pm

As I am getting closer to the finish of my new pit, I have been looking at many of the gauges out there for sale. I am thinking that I am going with the 3 in guage, with a 4 inch stem since I am needing readings for a 30 in pit diameter. I am thinking of going ahead and getting the Tel-Tru gauges. What is your choice of gauge? and is there other homes to get these gauges from, any cheaper than KCK or someone like that?

Can't go wrong with Tel-Tru therms... Don't know about pricing, but have you checked out Grainger? www.grainger.com.

They have a ton of options available...

Havent thought about Grainger, but KCK has them for about 35$. When you are putting 6 on it , you need the best deal.

Bluz,

I took a look around, the best I found was $42.

Looks like you got a good deal w/ KCK.

This may sound like a cheaper option but we used some that were 9.99 or in that range from academy and we haven't had to replace them in over a year. Just a thought if your buying a bunch of them.

Tel-Tru from KCK would be the way to go. :D No sense going to cheap or off-brand thermos. After all the work you've put in on your smoker why take a chance on something that needs to be reliable and accurate. JMHO

Im not sure on the website but i ordered directly from the distributor, i had to buy $10 though. It was still cheaper buying 10 then buying locally. here is there # 800-662-2183. I think they are in texas to.

Thanks for all the input guys. I called the # listed and forgot to ask the name, but something instruments. They dont carry American made gauges, only China made, which doesnt bother me much, since most of everything we buy now is made somewhere else, but I do try to do my part. That said in a long winded way, they carry 3" dial, with 4" stem, for, ten at a time, 16.80 each. You can get the same one from KCK about the same. Now When your looking in comparison of the domestic ones, thats about half. Each have a year or so warranty, no difference. Just have to decide whether its worth the money difference.
Thanks again everyone.
