Authentic KC Jack Stack BBQ Beans

Postby SteerCrazy » Tue Jan 16, 2007 10:22 pm

If you want real authentic KC Style beans, TRY THIS!

1 (32-ounce) can pork and beans (I use the Bush's Baked Beans)
1 cup chopped brisket
1 cup BBQ sauce (recommended: Jack Stack Original, I use Sweet Baby Rays)
4 heaping tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon liquid smoke (not necessary)
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water

Combine all ingredients in a 4-quart saucepan. Over medium heat, bring beans to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer. Cook beans for 20 minutes or until a thick, soupy consistency is reached. Serve.

This recipe also works well on a grill, letting the great outdoors permeate and enhance the flavor of the beans as they cook.

Oh Believe me, I'm tired of payin $7.99lb for this at the grocery store! Or better that, $10 lb. at Jack Stack (which is VERY popular here in KC) Make it yourself and you will be the hit of the party!!

I have ate the beans at our local joints....but never liked any of 'em...I think I will find out how much they charge for a lb of beans

Try this recipe coyote, it's the only beans I will eat! And yes, most of what we Q for our family is just as good as what you get at the Q joints (sometimes better)

Sometimeswhat I like to do with this recipe is put all the ingredients in a foil container then throw it on the pit or smoker uncovered for a few hours. Doing this will give it that good smoky, pit bean taste!

The BBQ sauce you use will have a profound effect on how the beans turn out. I prefer a good KC style, tomato base sauce, slightly on the sweet side. I mentioned Sweet Baby Rays which is readily available anywhere these days.
