24" Trailer Offset Build

Postby secondhandsmoke » Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:42 am

Hi All,

Just thought I'd share some pictures from my build.

Having never built a smoker and having never welded anything remotely this big, I think it's coming along ok so far.....

Did some rough designs in Sketchup.

Cooking chamber is 24" x 60" (or 600mm x 1500mm for those from around here). On the other side of the cooking chamber, there will be a prep bench that will have a HDPE cutting board and fire wood storage underneath. In front of that is the storage for my other passion - Home Brew. Two corny kegs and a jockey box for serving.

A mate gave me an old, rusty 6'x4' box trailer, so I promptly removed the side and the floor. The chassis is still in pretty good nick.

Next, I started work on the prep bench and wood storage.

Then, picked up the pipe and got it mounted to the trailer.

That's where I'm up to now. Hoping to get the end plates for the cooking chamber and the steel for the firebox back from the laser cutters tomorrow.

Got a bit more work done this afternoon...

All of the laser cut parts arrived today, so I tacked the firebox together.

These are the cooking chamber hinges I had laser cut.

Nice. You may want to use something different than those nut's and bolt's on the hinges, the nut's might back off with the opening and closing of the door, just my 2 cent's.

I was thinking of tacking the nuts on so that they can't loosen...

Either that or maybe use a clevis pin and R Clip???

You could just double nut it. Your project is looking good.

I've been a bit slack with the updates, but I'm slowly chipping away at this thing....

Cooking grates done

Image

Chimney on. I found some stainless pipe in the scrap bin at work. Score!

Image

Finished up the firebox door latch.

Not far to go now.
