Finally! Poppers
We have these allegedly half-hot Santa Fe peppers growing and turning red. Ha. They are hotter than the ScorchaPenners of last year...though some, at random, are just barely hotter than a bell pepper.
Tell me why, when we only wanted three pepper plants, we ended up with SEVEN? Including another alleged half-hot grown from seed that turned into bullets of molten lava?
Filling was crem chez, shredded Mexican mix, green onyawn, and ham. SB TX Pecan for the shake.
Before:
After:
And these for a side (frozen Chinese dumplings):
So basically, our entire diet today is snack food. And oh yes...we did the poppers in the air fryer.
I have a sort of SB story. A new spices store opened in a nearby harbor town. Very pretty, very nice displays. Prices maybe 3x higher than SB. We ended up with a tiny packet of a 'sea salt, chili and lime' mix that we thought would be nice for sprinkling and dips.
Stuff almost killed us.
Not that it was hot; it wasn't. But that the following day our tongues were swollen, our heads sore, our throats dry, and we each downed several buckets worth of water for the next three days before returning to a semblence of 'normal.'
I think their 'sea salt' contained borax.
Sticking to SB from now on.

Re: Finally! Poppers
OUP, this is the air fryer we got last year in a Costco-like store (it's the Power Air Fryer XL that was on TV infomercials). They're basically small convection ovens and are good for short, hot cooking. We use it primarily to cook frozen foods (like french fries) during the summer, so we don't heat up the house with the main oven. This was our first time trying poppers in it, and it worked better than I thought. It only took 9 minutes and the bacon was crisp.

Re: Finally! Poppers
The fryer is one of our favorite 'toys.' And the poppers were pretty good. They lacked the complexity that smoking gives, but, c'mon...nine minutes?
True to form, some had just a nice background spark, and one was like the surface of the sun.

I really like the Bacon Bark and yet everything else isn't burned to a crisp

Re: Finally! Poppers
Dumplings, my grandkids favourite thing, I've never mentioned it on here that I cook them often. I recently bought a wee tool for making them. I'm the only one that loves seafood in my family ( how's that happen) so I'll be making pork n prawn dumplings some time soon.

Well, they won't be EXACTLY the same, because no oil, but they will get dark and split. We have a few fat Boar's Heads in the freezer, thanks for the reminder. Now to get some hot dog buns....
