Bedford Blues Festival, First Call for Roll Call...

Postby Boots » Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:40 pm

Ol' Yoda and I have been talking about what to do team-wise for the Country Club team given the fall season is coming up, and I have been thinking about all the discussion around Bedford from last year (see link below for those that are new or curious). While this is a KCBS cook, we are giving it strong consideration though weighing it against other commitments and the Greenville cook later in the month. I have a big party to cater for a friend that month too, and three hard core cooks would be a really big commitment for my bunch. But it really sounded like a blast, particularly listening to CowboyDon and all the rest from the DFW area, so I am thinking at a minimum we gotta make the trip out to visit.

Redneck, not that I consider myself a contender (but hey, anything is possible, I know the food is good just convince the judges to think the same way), but am I correct that this would not be a qualifier for Meridian given it is KCBS sanctioned?

Thanks guys, look forward to it.

Thanks Red, I think I will try and come visit and save my cook for Greenville and that at least theoretical shot at Meridian...would be good to meet CowboyDon and the Tailgate crew...I mean, after all, they are the first to publish me on the World Weird Web and all, seems I outta at least return the favor and say howdy for helpin' to launch my literary career. Or maybe it's just a literally scary career.

As CowboyDon says: we'll be there. Parked next to our buds High Voltage Cookers. We'll be revealing the new trailer, we hope to stay sober enough to prep chicken this time. We ruined more than half of our chicken thighs tryin' to scrape the skin at 3AM. And we mixed up a helluva brisket rub, won first place, just can't remember what we put in it. Woohoo, good party and good music.

Yup, we'll be following around Boots with a notepad waiting for more wisdom to fall out.

Al Cervick also said "the last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it".

Tim and CowboyDan, we'll come see you but it won't be wisdom falling out of my head, just the loose marbles. Cooked next to Jamey McCurrey in Frisco, think he is one of the High V guys? May hit you guys up for an interview for the book.

I may not cook Bedford but will likely be taking lots of photos (another sideline of mine).

Lazy Bones will be out at this again this year, signed up today. Last year was the first comp I'd ever done. Hopefully I've learned enough in the last year to have much better brisket and pork!

This year will be a blast, on the level of last year or a notch higher, Thigh scraping will commence at 04:30 am !!! after that then we can work on the chicken. (NOTE: Unless Law Enforcement pay us a visit similar to the Colleyville Cook Off) :laughing7: :laughing7:

I cannot wait for this. This will be the first of TWO huge cookoffs in a row! Camp Craif Allen will follow next weekend. Boots, you and Yoda should really consider CCA, as I told you, it is fantastic! And it's a great cause as well. Bedford...Wow! Has that been a year already?
