I guess so…hope it doesn't turn into the "count my missing digits" thread :)

I gotta pull this one off, mainly because the wife doesn't think I can do it.

Nice. I've never ordered anything from them but BBQSmokerMods.com has a lot of drum parts. I've ordered BBQ gaskets from their sister company and never had any issues at all. Great service.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Thanks Fin. I thing in going to try and get most of it at Home Depot or Lowes. Still debating building a no weld fire basket or getting a nice one from somebody.

If you have an angle grinder or something to cut the material with you can always get a roll of tie wire from HD or Lowes (found either with the t-posts and fencing accessories or in the concrete section where the rebar is),double it and use tie wire to secure the expanded metal together and to your charcoal basket frame. It obviously won't last as long as if it were welded but as long as you use wire ties every 2-3" AND double it up it'll last a long time.

Thanks.

I think one of the forum members welds baskets. Can't remember who though.

I know there's quite a few that can do it. I can make one depending on where you're at. I'm in the Austin area.

never made a UDS basket but I've made plenty of Coon Guards for our Deer Feeders from good stout wire (with proper mesh of course) and hawg nose rings applied with proper pliers instead of welding. I do know that 3 large Coons couldn't destroy them no matter what. :whiteflag:

OUP you're right- hawg rings are plenty stout! Tie wire is certainly not as strong. I didn't mention the hawg rings because most of them I've seen are galvanized or coated with zinc. Maybe they make 'em in plain steel. :dont:

GOOD POINT, I would bet they're not cold steel and probably have some kind of coating since they are for poking holes in live animals :laughing7: I have made Coon Guards and used the cage wire itself to hold it in place, if you know what I mean? just cut longer and wrappy wrap
