Went for a walk in the forest yesterday. About 5 miles away from us there is an old wreck of a German Dornier DO17M1 from the Luftwaffe. It crashed on the July 2, 1942. Due to bad weather they lost their course and crashed into a hill. They were on their way to Oslo airport. The Crew of 3 died.
Unfortunately souvenir hunters have picked parts from the wreckage, even if it prohibited.
Still an interesting piece of war history.
A few pictures of the remaining wreckage. And a picture of the flight type
Close by is another memorial place. During the war radios was forbidden. Bother receivers and transmitters. Therefore the resistance set up small camps out in the wilderness where they had radio transmission with the military in London. A very risky task. Many got shot. They relayed intelligence information and received targets for sabotage etcetera. Unfortunately the Germans tracked the transmissions and close to this place two members of the resistance was discovered with their radio was and shot by the Germans.
Lots of WWII history in the vicinity of us due to the occupation and Norways strategic position. Especially the coast along the Atlantic Ocean.

There is a "Reverance" just looking at the monitor and knowing the story behind it.

Re: WWII German aircraft wreck
Do17s were quickly outclassed early on once up against the Spitfires and Hurricanes, big difference from going against Polish biplanes. Poor defensive armaments. Thankfully the Germans never developed a successful strategic bomber and relied on light medium bombers like this. Ironically the one Luftwaffe general successfully pushing such a program was killed pre-war in an air crash of all things, and as a result the Luftwaffe shelved all such efforts…. Karma or?
