Weather was great to day so whole family decided to go for a bike trip. We have great gravel roads throughout the forest that's great for walking/biking in the summer. They are closed for cars. During winter they are used for skitracks. Today's little trip was 24 km. Destination was the little Cafe that is 12 km into the forest. Always buying fresh baked cinnamon buns. It's originally a little farmhouse that in the earlier days was used by a farmer when he brought his cattle for free running during the summer.
A part of the road is from the early 1700's. Used by horses for traffic from the capital to the west coast city Bergen. Passing by a little hill which name translates to the "bandit hill". In the old days bandits used to hide in caves in the hill and rob bypassing people. Lots of scary histories.
One of the lakes is called "Stonebridge darn". That's because in 1700's the road crossed the lake. At middle of the lake a stone bridge is going across the lake. It's under water now but a few years ago they drained much of the water and the bridge was above water and we could cross over. It hasn't been visible in 140 years before that. Pretty cool. I've added a picture of it.

Re: Beautiful family day
Makes me want to see Norway, everything looks so crisp and clean. And the son has gotten very tall!!
Like the very nice gravel trails and bikes. My bride and I are old Road riders - 2 lane Texas “blacktops” - asphalt roads (we still have more oil here than Elvis Presley’s head). Nothing like a good hard day’s ride in the Texas countryside and then wolfing down a good meal and an icy cold bier with no guilt. Life is a good ride, literally and figuratively.

Re: Beautiful family day
Thanks folks. I'm very happy where we're situated. This area is less than 5 minutes away on our bikes. The entire forest is within the capital's border. Actually this area is bigger than the habituated area of the capital. You can walk for days not seeing people if you like. A big part of it is privately owned but all such areas are free to use for everyone. Camping, picking berries, mushrooms, fishing is also free for everyone.
Downtown capital is a 15 minutes drive away, same to the marina, ocean and beaches.
Boots: as I've said before. I would be happy to show you around.
Kids are outgrowing me. I'm shrinking
