You'd be surprised how many people out there give wood away. My oak I paid for but all the cherry, maple and apple were all free. Even some black walnut I burn in the fire pit during the summer.

I’ve actually thought about piddling with some cooking wood if I ever fully Retire. I have saws, tractor, and a splitter. We have Post Oak, Red Oak, and Hickory readily available. Probably might make $10 an hour after you figure fuel, equipment, and Labor. On second thought, never mind
