That time of year

Postby GRailsback » Thu Feb 17, 2022 12:20 pm

Well, its been a little while since we have been to a cook off. So getting ready to load into Houston this weekend. Had to knock the dust off the pit and get it ready. Hopefully sometime in March it is going into the coaters to get sand blasted and primered and re-painted. Kind of a long story, but after having a lengthy conversation with KAM some time ago, it is going in for a zinc primer and then re-paint.

Rambo I got the griddle shined up and ready to go. If I can find some biskets somewhere I am going to take them some to throw in the pit. The rest of the stuff, bacon and eggs they can do on this griddle.

You should run a test on a “ KAM Pan” brisket

I already pan my briskets. I have always wrapped or panned. Once in awhile I finish one without but not very often.

Thank you sir.

I have been talking with Cy fair Coaters about getting it re-done, and I have taken it out to them to have a look at it. But if you know of any other reputable suitors I haven't made the final selection on contractors yet.

I am not familiar with them how did they react to you wanting the inorganic zinc?
My company all but quit doing cookers as they are bowed up with pipe jobs.

They own a pit themselves and apparently have done the zinc coating on it. But I still have to get down in the ditch and get to the details on the redo. The problem I have is, is that Klose didn't really do any primer on it at all. What they did is they painted the entire pit black, on new steel, then they came back and did the red on top of the black. So I have chased issues of having to resurface the high heat areas from like year 2 on. When the red peels back you see the black. then it rust from there. But there are things croping up that if I don't get it reversed them I am going to have issues. So I think I am just going to have the entire thing stripped down and redone. May do it in 2 runs, get the cooking components done first, then come back and do the red, or I may do it all at once.
