Drying Rub

Postby super8mm » Fri Feb 18, 2022 7:32 pm

I have a bottle of some pork rub that I had not used for a long while and I went to use it on some chops but it has evidently gotten some moisture in it as it has clumped together. I did dig it out with a spoon and used it by just rubbing in on by hand and it still tasted good but I was wondering if there is something I can do to dry it out so I can use it in a shaker? :dont:

On one hand; pour it out and crumble it up. On the other; get something fresh

Can't you try the same as with brown sugar that has turned hard? Put it in the microwave oven on medium power for 10-20 seconds.

The same with crystallized honey. Put it in the microwave for 1 minute on medium power.

With a fresh bottle, either use it up quickly or put some dry beans in with it (works better than rice).

The newer SuckleBusters has a anti-caking ingredient added to prevent this from occurring.
The ingredient is wholesome but does have a downside it may cause you to sneeze as the noncaking rub floats freely in the air. :D

I agree with the idea to crumble it up the best you can and add dried beans or peas to the rub.
They take moisture out and are good as a shaking agent.
