Texas Deer Season
Can’t wait until Saturday morning. I have 3 good bucks behind the barn on the 40 acres. I went to Massengills Meat Market yesterday and bought Casings, pork fat, seasoning, and high temp shredded cheese. I have 2 Boston Butts in the freezer I’m going to set out to thaw tonight. Good Luck everyone

Re: Texas Deer Season
Good luck man, healthiest meat we can eat IMHO. Haven't hunted in 40 years but more and more each day I'm reconsidering it.
Good friend up the street hunts right next to his house on SGL's and offered me a spot.
Every day easily 2 dozen walk right through our yard, they are Everywhere up here...
Looking forward to aee what you will make.

Re: Texas Deer Season
what cal do you hunt with?; me have not hunted in years, worked for the Texas Parks & Wildlife prior to Department of Public safety... The wardens know where the big bucks are and just how big they are, guessing in your neck of the woods may be Morgan or Randy last name not used on purpose? Us in the sell out, throw away, give away hoping to sell the house to move closer to the kids in alabama... time will tell.. good luck on opening day!!

Re: Texas Deer Season
Good luck, I’d be selfish about it too.
Nice to be able to go right by the house.
I haven’t shot a deer since I left IL 25 years ago.
I refused to pay to get on a lease when I moved here, drive 2 or more hours, and now I wish I could get on one.
Good luck!

I shoot a 270. I certainly understand about the Lease Prices. I’m really blessed; we have 39 plus acres that joins a 4000 acre MLD lease across the county road. When those guys start running their 4 wheeler and side by sides they come across the road to my place

Re: Texas Deer Season
killed my first deer @14 with a .222 with custom hand loaded ammo; Later in life started shooting a .270, 30-06, the .222 is a little on the light side for white tail but the custom loading makes is a highly accurate and extremely capable deer rifle. I have that one in the safe from years of old....

Re: Texas Deer Season
NIce East Texas 8 pointer, Neighbor ! He'll make nice Sausage and Backstrap Tenderloins - - I'm envious of the Food part but I too haven't hunted in many years. My Sons and I used to be avid hunters, harvesting all of our Tags every year but I just got tired of killing them and quit. Both of my Sons are still active hunters and I still get a piece of Venison every now and then. S.T. mentioned that 222 with handload and it reminded me of one that I bought when we lived in Colorado and had it loaded with a 70 grain Speer. It would shoot very flat and very far and I harvested many Mule Deer with it there. I finally ended up getting my dream gun, a Ruger #1 25-06 with a bull barrell, and I used it until I quit hunting. I've given all of my Guns to my Sons, except for my home defense arsenal.
Good Luck, Rambo, looking forward to seeing your harvest and your links.

The kids live in Limestone county or Madison, just west of Huntsville, the wife wants to be next door, best we could possibly come up with was two doors down the street.

I was up through there a few weeks ago. Pretty country, hope the new place came with a storm cellar.

So that's how you count points, both sides? I read this and thought, Wow, never even seen an eight-point!
We count one. Lucky to see a three-point here.

As a rule, anything that is an antler and makes a "point" is counted as a point, however, there are non-typical antlers that can define description sometimes. This old boy is what ?we? always referred to as a "straight eight" !
