Wife has bird feeders out on the patio. This has been an all out show of nature. Cardinals, Bluejays and tonight saw my first female Painted Bunting. Probably the coolest bird around. Only God himself could throw every color of the rainbow on one bird and make it work and for me it WORKS.
Stock photos as they are easily spooked.

Re: It’s a bird show
I miss having feeders out and getting to see the various types of beautiful Birds that would occasionally visit during the year - - the painted bunting was one of those awesome visitors along with the Rosebreasted Grosbeaks and many others

To make a fair and honest post, the pics are males. Here is a stock shot of the female.

That's God Protecting the little Ladies with a Heavenly Camouflage so they can be less noticeable as they sit on those eggs or build the nests or feed them babies.

Yes! I've never seen a painted bunting in the wild, but my cousin did a pastel drawing of one. Even that was memorable.

They are a cousin of sort to Cardinals. If Cardinals are present they are likely close by. Tend to be very easily spooked. Feeding is very typical, early morning and just around sundown. Occasionally during the day after the little ones hatch.

I always enjoyed the birds when we lived in Huntsville Tx, it was just the sketters that were so bad, here mostly blue jays and house finches.

Re: It’s a bird show
A lot of what we call our Native BIrds don't come to the Grain Feeders, even tho they are Grain Eaters. More than likely this is because they are ?native? and they know where and how to find their food locally. However, when I was an avid Bird Food Provider, I was so fortunate to get to see non-native birds like these Buntings, Grosbeaks and others that were migratory and not native to SE Texas where I lived. Therefore "they" were glad to see a good meal in the same place every year they came through. There's always the possibility that a new and never seen bird can show up at "your Feeders" when you least expect it. If you do decide to put a feeder out then do your homework and "ENJOY".

A friend of mine used to say that when a Cardinal "sang" it sounded like "pretty pretty pretty pretty"
