Put Another Log on the Fire JOE

Postby Boots » Fri Jan 05, 2024 9:49 am

Thought the below might be helpful since I hear Scandinavia is having a bit of a cold snap down into the -40 degree range (both celsius and fahrenheit). WOW. News report said all the electric buses the Swedes bought froze up and don’t work, they had to trot out the diesels. Old school is still the best school.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekw32CL3SoY. - Credit Tom Paul Glaser, but I just like the Bobby Bare version.

Coldest I ever saw was -8 degrees fahrenheit, here at the Farm during our Snowmegeddon a few years back (remarkably, it did NOT hill the Kale my wife had planted - which makes me think Kale must be a product developed in secret by the CIA during the Cold War so Americans could eat greens even if the Rooskies dropped the Bomb. Minus 40 might sure stiffen the coffee a bit.

:laughing7: I’ve got a big fire going now. About 40 and a miserable steady rain falling. Had to break out big Rain Trench coat to go to the barn this morning

Yep same, it’s mud time on the Farm again.. Ol Tunder colicked a bit yesterday so I had to write my annual check to the Smiley Veterinarians Retirement Fund (the SVRF) for a tube of banamine and a palpation exam. 500 bucks for a 30 minutes’ worth of horse proctology and a tube of glorified toothpaste. I’m in the wrong business. I shoulda gone to vet school and got into the legal thievery business, or maybe politics, they’re about the same. Politicians practice proctology on us average Joes every day.

I do think the media makes too much fuss about the temperatures. We don't usually have it this cold but we normally have -8 fahrenheit many days during the winter.. What's a little bit special is that it is this cold now and that we've had it cold for a month already. Last month has hovered around 5 fahrenheit. Usually, the coldest period is in mid-February. A few days with some extra cold is no big deal. Most of us have heated floors and well isolated houses so it's t-shirt temperature inside.

Boots: That song is very popular here. We have our Norwegian version:

Rambo: we have the fireplace running, too. It's cozy.

I"ve mentioned before that we were once trying to hang sheetrock in Summit County Colorado and discovered that it was in the minus low 50s so we went home "DUH"

Here on Lawn Guyland it's unusual but we may have experienced a below zero day or two... 14 below in 1967 and again in 1991.

I have nothing else to add except you're all making me smile. Thanks.

Joe the cover version is awesome, I cracked up. Even though he’s almost 90, if Bobby Bare hears about that, he’s going to want to come out of retirement and tour Norway. If he does put out the alert that everybody needs to hide their Ringnes, else Bobby might drink it all up. :santa: :texas:

And since we’re on the topic of wood and beer and Norway and BBQ, my crack research team consisting of two lazy licking-pot hounds just turned up a mind blowing fact:

Norway produces a SMOKED beer, with an incredibly appropriate name that also begets a song. I find the Hank Williams junior version of the Beatles classic the funniest, and perhaps the best of the lot, apologies to John, Paul, George and Ringo. No doubt there is a Norwegian version too:

Boots: That's a great song too. Didn't find a Norwegian version.

The beer look awesome. Haven't tried it but I'll definitely check it out.

Regarding the name of the beer: The name of the brewery translates to "The handbrewery" :D

The only thing I want that cold is my beer! They’re welcome to it
