We ate many mayonnaise (Miracle Whip) sandwiches and were glad to get it. There wasn’t any chips, too expensive

I do believe anybody whom would consider that a "struggle" has never really been hungry.

Same here. Also ate a pickle juice sandwich once. I wouldn’t recommend that one

Wouldn't have worked at our place because Mom saved the Pickle Juice and she and my baby sis would dip their popcorn in it. YUCK ! :banghead:

I understand what you’re saying; I believe what OUP and I were talking about was the times we grew up in. There wasn’t nice chips, dips, Deli meat and sodas.

I was actually Blessed because my Mom's Parents took us in when Dad got drafted. It was right out of the Depression and then they bombed Pearl Harbor.

When Dad came home "WE LIVE VERY MODEST" but never cold or hungry "thank God". One rent house we lived in for a short time (thank God) had no electricity, therefore, we had an Ice Box on the front porch that ran off of "ICE" that was brought around by an Ice Man. In order to be able to listen to the Radio at night, my Dad had rigged up an Auto Generator on the eve of the house with a propeller so the Panhandle wind would spin it during the day and the wires that ran into the house to the Battery would provide a charge for supper to bedtime radio shows.

Believe me when I say "They were good times because we were together, warm and happy".
