Yes, we bought a rotisserie for the gas grill, thinking, Wow, this will make great rotisserie chicken. Can't wait!
Then we went to the store and bought what they said was a fryer. We brined it with bay leaf, peppercorns, lemon, coriander, salt, and lemon soda.
'uhm, fryers don't weigh ten pounds, do they?'
'Never mind, we'll try this.'
'It's flopping around on the skewer! What'll we do now?'
'Didn't it say to tie the bird?'
'That's right. Where's the kitchen string?'
'I thought I had some. Maybe knitting cotton will work.'
'All right, it's on the rig. Now we wait.'
'Do you smell burning string?'
'Oh, look how black it is! Ruined!
' 'Let's send the rotisserie back.'
And then we ate it.
It was awesome.

Keep playing with it sailor, ya’ll will have it perfected in no time. Maybe cut the burner back a little bit and just cook it a little longer.

Re: RotissaFirst
Most grills have a thermometer on them, ours does, I adjust the burners to maintain 350 and the meat, even a pork butt comes out great.
sometimes I have to readjust the burners to keep the temperature consistent throughout the cooking process, depending on wind and temperature.
I hope this helps with your rotisserie journey

Re: RotissaFirst
We'll definitely try it again, with a (hopefully) smaller chicken.
Thanks for the suggestions. We'll try lower heat next time.

This is priceless what a great read I chuckled all the while.
Rotisserie birds are a different breed no doubt.
This reminds me of the first bird Debbie cooked in her George Foreman. I didn't tie it on properly and that bird was flipping and flopping all around in that dome lol.
The results of your first experience look great to me I plate it up no doubt!!!

Re: RotissaFirst
I took me but one bird to realize that those huge oven stuffers just don't work on a roti. I also incinerated mine.
I now like to roti a couple of 3 pound birds - easier to tie and balance, just as good. They reach done before they incinerate.
