When we lived in Nix in the Hill Country, we used to sit on the front porch, watch the sun set and I'd call the Turkey's from across the road up to the fence. Good way to practice your cackle box calling.

The older I get the more I dislike Summer in Texas. We've actually been talking about leaving in June and coming back in October. Maybe find a cool spot in New Mexico
Red River is cheap, pretty country, great weather. Santa Fe gets much cheaper now to with turista time over, and great food. Recommend the old Punk Adobe.

Re: So long, summer
I used to love Gobbler Season when we lived in the Hill Country.
I also loved to "Call" them up for Family and Friends to Harvest, especially in the area we lived in because there were plenty of turkeys.
Sometimes we would sit on our front porch and I would call them up to the fence across the road but I never harvested them or called them across the road from the porch. It was kinda like a Game that "WE" enjoyed year round. One year a Hen laid her eggs right behind our house and I kept the foxes and cats chased away as best I could. When those babies got old enuff to follow Mom, it was a sight to see.

Re: So long, summer
How cool with wild turkeys. We don't have them here.
Summer is definitely coming to an end. The autumn is still a great time. Crisp clear air colors in the nature fantastic.
With the cold nights and warm days we get beautiful skies in the morning.
Took this one outside my office this morning. No turkey behind the fence, though.

Beautiful, Sir JOe, we also used that porch to view the evening Sunsets when we lived there.
