Taco pizza
Usually this goes in the Ooni, but rain made the oven get the call.
I buy my dough balls at a local pizza joint, it’s good and it works, saving me the fails.
Tonight was a taco pizza, with SB Texas Gold Dust and olive oil as the sauce. Topped with taco meat, green onion, black olives. Cilantro and pickled jaleps added after.

Sometimes I get the pizza dough from the pizza shop as well, quick and always just right if I don't feel like breaking out the Kitchen Aid.
Always wanted an Ooni, spectacular piece of equipment.
I resort to my Akorn on the pizza stone for now and love it but I definitely want an Ooni in the near future. Those Jalaps look delicious on that pie. Nice job man

I like using the gas attachment over wood. I feel I can keep more control of the temperature.
If I had to buy another, it would be gas only.

Hmm, interesting to hear that. I am interested in the Karu 16 because of the different fuel sources. I think if I got the 12" I'd soon wish I got the 16"bowhnter wrote:The Pocono Ring Shop wrote:

The 780.00$ cost has my foot on the brakes for now.
They look like a High Quality piece of equipment. Are they built well?

Re: Taco pizza
No, you don’t want the 12”.
Actually since I typed about the gas/wood this morning I was thinking.
I don’t try to get a pizza done in 90 seconds anymore. My wife and grandkids aren’t a huge fan of that style since it ‘looks’ like it isn’t done, but really is.
That fast you can’t really taste the wood flavor anyway. So next pizza outside, I’m going to use wood, shut the door, and cook at at a 500-600 temp for a longer period of time, similar to the oven.
I have had mine for a couple years and have had no issue with the quality yet. Even though I still don’t think they warrant the price they get.

That makes total sense to me.bowhnter wrote:No, you don’t want the 12”.

I find the best combination when I do pizza on the Akorn is about 6 minutes on the stone over Lump at 600 degrees. I always dust a nice layer of Semolina on the stone just before I put the pizza on.
6 minutes at 600 is the sweet spot for me unless I use thick cuts of Roni, I like the Ronis that " cup up ". For that and peppers or onions I'll go 500 for 8 or 9 minutes.
Pizza dough is great, but my absolute favorite is using Naan bread.
Ever try that ?

Re: Taco pizza
Naan bread? For like personal pan?
I haven’t but it sounds good. I suppose you put that in just long enough to heat everything up and melt the cheese?
I have taken dough and made 8-10 in pizza doughs and freeze them. It’s handy when you want people to just top their own and you can crank em out pretty quick.

Yes, these Naan personally pizzas work great with a group of friends that want to make their own.bowhnter wrote:Naan bread? For like personal pan?

I use this brand, they are phenomenal.
I even prefer these over homemade pizza crust and I've made a bunch.
These will actually Brown up and get crunchy. I do the Italian thing and lightly brush Evoo on the Naan before any sauce goes on regardless if it's a traditional or white pizza.
I've been wanting to do a Chicken Bacon Ranch and a Huy Fong ( Rooster sauce ) and Ranch pizza, maybe tomorrow now that you have me in the pizza mode !
I'm not sure if Russ ( Norway i believe ) is still on here, but I remember back in the day he was a big Naan fan as well. He had some great cooks for sure.
You HAVE to try it, I don't think you will be disappointed. My favorite it Garlic Parmesan Naans.
