TBBQF THROWDOWN SERIES - SEAFOOD CHALLENGE
Posted: Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:49 am
Alright, alright alright. I think we've kicked this idea around enough to put it into practice. So, here we go!
This will be a brand new experience for the forum. A series of 4 throwdown challenges. For each individual challenge, the winner will receive bragging rights. However, after the conclusion of the 4th challenge, the winner will receive a custom trophy, and a Sucklebusters prize package, provided by me, your friendly neighborhood Counselor.
This is the first challenge in the series, and it is Seafood! Fish, shrimp, oysters, prawns, etc. It must be cooked on some form of fire. This is a BBQ Forum, so let's BBQ. Gas grills, charcoal grills, smokers, pellet grills, you get the idea. The flame must be the primary cooking method. It cannot be boiled or fried. You can't even use your gas grill to set the pot to boiling! You can use flat top griddles (i.e. Blackstones) as well.
Now, for the presentation. This is all about the particular item in the challenge. Entries with sides or other items will be disqualified. The entry must be the only item in the picture, along with the secret code which I will reveal at the bottom. Please don't include seasonings, identifiable cutting boards or plates, or alcohol in the pictures either. We want these to be 100% blind entries. Of course, you can put the item on a plate, cutting board, or other media, but it must not have identifiable features.
We never know how many entries we will get, so here is how the scoring will work:
1st Place - 15 points
2nd Place - 12 points
3rd Place - 10 points
4th Place - 9 points
5th Place - 8 points
6th Place - 7 points
7th Place - 6 points
8th Place - 5 points
9th place - 4 points
10th place - 3 points
11th place - 2 points
12th place - 1 point
13th and beyond - 0 points
This challenge will close at midnight (Central Time) on Sunday, April 26, 2020. That's a looooong time, but with this new format, I want to make sure everyone has plenty of time to plan and enter their cook!
As always, voting will remain open for 48 hours so that all members have an opportunity to vote. There is no requirement to participate in all 4 challenges, however, if you want to win, I would suggest it. We're also doing this to support the forum and hopefully attract some new members and attention, so it would be great if we have massive participation.
Now, entries must be submitted to tbbqfthrowdown@gmail.com. I will notify you once I receive your entry. Only one entry will be allowed per member BUT if you send in an entry and later want to replace it, please send the new entry and state that you want it replaced.
It's been a lot of information, so thank you for staying with me. In summation, here is the pertinent info:
- Seafood only, no sides or accouterments;
- Entries must be sent to tbbqfthrowdown@gmail.com no later than midnight central time on April 26, 2020;
- One entry per participant;
- Have fun!
And now, for the secret code word: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Please post any and all questions you have here. This is a big change from prior throwdowns we've done, so if you have a question, odds are someone else does too.
