No, they do not. And it not part of the UIL or any other TEA program. It is a stand alone organization run by some of the best people.

https://texashsbbq.org/ But there are many teams from school FFA programs along with Ag, metal shop, culinary arts and simply schoolteachers with the passion of BBQ and supporting the kids who want to compete.
Proteins are provided by the regional host school at 6:00am on comp day by prior number draw.
The teams must provide the other food products for the comp.
For proteins the heat source must be charcoal or wood. No pellet cookers. No propane cookers.
Once the fire is lit, the kids must maintain it without any controllers, fan assist, or propane.
I must say I've have truly enjoyed doing this the past couple of years.

I believe there were 87 teams qualified for state last year.
