From what I understand, it's just what it sounds like... Often it's a category of any meat not already included in the competition.

As James stated - it is anything other than the standard brisket, ribs, and chicken.

Some Cooker's Choice is Dessert only so read the flyer real close.

Its the Promoters call. Some call it an Open, Cooks Choice, Chefs Choice. This goes for most all sanctioning bodies except KCBS. They call it Anything But. Can be anything from Shrimp to Stuffed Mushrooms, or Dessert. As stated it can't be a half or halfs of Chicken, Pork Spare Ribs, or sliced Brisket. If anyone is going to cook one it does pay to read the rules, because in the cookoffs that I Promote the rule states that it can't be a Dessert, and it must be cooked on site on your pit or grill. Hope this helps. Bob

In the Chef's Choice category, are slow cookers allowed? I didn't specify they were not in my rules. I'm just wondering what the norm is. Generators are allowed for lighting, so electricity is available. From what I have read, it is only allowed for ignition, not for cooking. Also, I have seen in some regulations that Chef's Choice may be prepared off site. Any information would be great...I'm a first time organizer. :D I am not allowing slow cookers for beans.

Boone, there are some Comp guys here; you might try sending a private message to KAM, Papa Tom, Limey, or TX1911

Jackpots do not fall under sanctioning rules, its is up to the promoter on what they will allow. Some will say "must be cooked on the pit", others will say "anything goes." If you don't specify then it means anything goes.
Cooks choice meat categories usually state it has to be on the pit.
We cook our comp beans in a crock pot, and I don't recall ever doing a comp where we weren't allowed to.

You will be donating if you want to cook in a crock pot. Grilled ribeyes or bacon wrapped shrimp are usually called out. The more unique or presentation usually does well also.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!
