We have a Halloween Party to go to in 2 weeks and I am contemplating on what type of desert to bring.
Today's test was this Apple Smoked Bread Puding With Apple Bourbon Sauce.
Next is Smoked Drunken Mt Dew Apple Dumplings and last is a combo of Pound Cake and Mexican Hot Chocolate Smoked Ice Cream.
This one came out amazing and the Apple Bourbon Sauce puts the sugar level thru the roof. This was so good, you don't even need the Sauce.
Ingredients:
1 Loaf French Bread/ cubed
3 Eggs
2 Cups of Sugar
1.5 tsp Vanilla Extract
3 Cups Milk
2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
3 TBS Melted Butter.
Directions:
Beat Eggs, add All other ingredients and mix well. Add cubed French Bread and mix well but Gently.
Let soak 5 minutes and place in cast iron and bake at 325 for 45 minutes.
I used the smoker at 300 for about 50 minutes. I also added 1 cup of Molasses to the recipe in the very end.
Drizzle the Molasses all over just before baking/smoking and it will give you chewy caramelized pieces that you would not have if you didn't use it.
The Bourbon Sauce:
1/2 Cup Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Egg " Beaten Lightly "
3 Tablespoons Bourbon
Directions:
Melt Butter over low heat. Add Sugar and Eggs and mix well. Continue cooking on low until Sauce thickens.
Add the Bourbon and mix well.
