Can you brine fried chicken?

Postby atcNick » Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:30 am

I've got a whole chicken sitting in the brine in the fridge since last night, don't feel like grilling tonight, thinking of frying it up. Any of you guys brine your chicken before you fry?

Also looking for a good fried chicken recipe if you have one.

Thanks

Nick, here is a great Fried Chicken Recipe I just posted it and hope I did everything correctly.
It is fantastic using it on fresh birds.
I've never tried it with a brined bird, but it should take it up a notch.
Hope you like it.

interesting, as i understand not to brine a fried turkey. guess the size of the turkey with over flowing grease to result in certain death is the issue.

I think it is because of the larger amount of the whole turkey holding all the extra moisture and hot oil, versus the size of pieces of chicken. :dont:

And yes, Church's has a 24 hr. brine that helps it be so lip smackin' good!

Old thread revived! Good topic though. I too, brine my chicken that's going to the fryer. Usually the night before. Comes out so juicy and just bursting with flavor. You can tell the difference for sure. Pro tip: after you experience this, you can easily spot the fast food places that brine theirs as well!

my grandparents taught me to marinate everything in buttermilk
especially any game
but it is special on chicken
when you make the buttermilk marinate for the chicken add a healthy dose of salt ;)

Oh yes! I've done this a couple times. Only because I was told to give it a minimum of 24 hours for best results. Worth.. The.. Wait.. 8)
