It all started with a dream....

Postby tex_toby » Thu Mar 28, 2024 9:16 am

I had a dream the night before last that I was making some homemade beef jerky. Mind you, I haven't made jerky in probably at least 15 years. I told y'all the story a few months ago that I finally got my meat slicer fixed and up and running, so I don't know if that's what triggered my dream brain or else I've just been eating too much poultry, fish & veggies and my brain wanted some beef! :cowrose: :laughing7: It's been so long since I last made jerky that I almost forgot I owned a dehydrator. Anyways, I knew I had to go to the store and get all the ingredients needed to make this happen.

I ended up following Matt Pittman's jerky recipe from over at Meat Church. His recipe obviously calls for using his seasoning, but I substituted that with Sucklebusters 1836 Beef Rub since it is my absolute favorite. I bought a 2# bottom round roast and thinly sliced with my meat slicer. I then concocted the marinade and put them in the fridge overnight together so they could get to know one another. This morning, I drug out my dehydrator and crossed my fingers that it would even turn on since it had been so long. I loaded it up, re-dusted the top sides with another round of 1836 and off it went. At the very least, the house smells amazing! Going to let it coast for a few hours and then give it a check. I'll report back with results!

That’s inspiration right there! It looks like I may have that same dehydrator sittin in a closet unused. :laughing7:

Looks like some good jerky, you’ll have that gone in no time.

True, but you can crank out some good food, not just BBQ . I’ve seen it throughout the years

T Toby has lots of nice cooking toys. He has skills for sure. When I saw him put grill grates on his gas grill, I ordered a set as well. Completely changed how my grill cooked, for the better.

Funny for the last two weeks I’ve wanted to make jerky. Thanks for the inspiration for sure. You did a great job.
