Sirloin in the pan

Postby Norway Joe » Sat Jan 29, 2022 2:05 pm

Staying at the cabin for the weekend and planned to grill the steaks for dinner. Got surprised by a little snow blizzard with sustained wind around 60 mph and gusts around 90 mph so no grilling. I know this isn't much wind for many of you but at the top of the mountain with little to shield from the wind and sub zero (celsius) temperatures it's not pleasant outside. It's supposed to last through the night and until noon tomorrow.

Anyway, seasoned the steaks with S&P and garlic and fried them in the pan. Served with our usual sides: broccoli, mushrooms, pommel noisettes, black pepper sauce and herb butter.

It was a tasty meal.ImageImageImage

Plate looks great Bro Joe, when it's cold and that ol wind is howling, it can get miserable and dangerous as well.
Nothing wrong with that indoor grub at all  :wav: :chef:  :salut:

Sustained wind at 60 is Tropical Storm force a 90 is Hurricane Force. There would be shi t in treetops and power lines down everywhere. We’re not equipped for those temperatures and that kind of wind

Yes, the wind is forceful but We're good. Most of the powerlines are buried in the ground, except for the large ones that goes between regions. Around these they regularly cut trees so they can't fall over the lines.

Here at the cabin the only thing is that the skilifts probably are closed today due to the wind.

In Norway they ski indoors in big buildings now. Don’t need the sky lifts any more.

The indoor skiarena you saw has opened. They have finished building it but due to covid restrictions it has been closed most of the time. It's open now but i haven't had the time to go there. It's pretty awesome they say.

Here's a video from inside. Not the best skier but you get an impression of the complex.

How do they get snow in it?

The generations before you would be shaking there heads. Just like they would be over here with the things that go on these days.

They produce the snow with snowcannons. Temperature inside is around 28 fahrenheit.

Regarding the generations I agree.

The ski arena is very popular in the summer among those who practice cross country or biathlon. Much safer than running on roller ski's (Not roller blades) along the roads since it's hard to break with roller ski's.

During the summer you see folks like these along the roads all the time.

Thanks. Weather was interesting but not uncommon in the winter. A few houses at the coast lost their roof but aside that nothing much.
