I Made Rommegrot

Postby OkieGal » Fri Mar 04, 2022 10:43 pm

But first I made sour cream.
I followed directions in the link provided by Norway Joe.
SO simple - but apparently the forbidden "ultra-pasteurized" is the standard around here. That's what I had, so I used it. It was pretty runny but tasted good.
The rommegrot turned out about right, I think. My pictures are boring, but it was a tasty porridge.
Honestly, I prefer the Risgrot, made with rice.
But if I make this again, i will be sure to find the right type of cream.
(Looks like my pics are out of order  )

Joe. I'm sorry we can't discuss these things here - though it's probably for the best. :| My heart is with your family and your country. I know that you are "too close for comfort" and I hope that you all don't get dragged into this mess. I will pray for your nation, as I do for mine - and for the Ukrainian people.

That's cool. It looks absolutely right for me and I'm impressed. The taste is very different from rice porridge and may take a few times to get to love.
Serving it with some slices of cured ham or cured leg of lamb is great. The salty meat goes well with the porridge.

It's not so often we eat it since it's not very healthy, I think. When I see it on the menu in a Cafe in the mountains I usually go for it. It's typically served there to help people get their energy back after a strenuous walk or ski trip.

I'm not going to comment on the Ukraine war since my post was blocked. I see there's a new post about Ukraine where those who are allowed can comment.

Thank you for your thoughts. We're doing fine at the moment.

Thanks for the stamp of approval/kind words, Joe.
I can see how this would grow on a person (or maybe make a person grow LOL). I will try it again and serve with ham. :D

Understood.
