Charcoal

I use B&B. It’s a really good charcoal for the price. Consistent size chunks, burns clean and I haven’t found any filler. You can spend as much as you want on some of them. The favorite I’ve tried is Rockwood but I can buy two bags of B&B for the price of one Rockwood (about).

Worst I’ve used was Cowboy. All kinds of random filler crap in it.

B&B user as well. Oak works well for me when smoking even if I don’t throw any pecan/oak/mesquite splits in the fb.

I’ve had good experiences with the Fogo Super Premium. The regular Fogo didn’t seem to be anything special. B & B has done me right as well.

B&B, Royal Oak, and the big bag at Sam’s that I can’t recall the name Western _______ .

If you come across one you are curious about, you can check it out at Naked Whiz dot com.

Bought a bag of Jealous Devil a little while back and it really burns hot, clean and for a long time. Price isn’t that friendly but I think I’m getting more cooks per bag

B&B here as well. Oak primarily although have used hickory as well. Lights great, excellent heat and just enough smoke for flavor although I use pecan and oak splits for most long cooks.

Anyone using the Blues Hog brand? Seems to be the flavor of the month.

I haven't used any Blues Hog charcoal products. I did watch this YT video review recently that included Blues Hog lump charcoal, keeping in mind it's something on YT and not something I've tested myself.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=05fNRcoDp0E

The guy doing the testing is currently sponsored by B&B Charcoal but my impression is he didn't have a sponsor when he ran and uploaded his tests.

I use Frontier hardwood lump charcoal myself.

The best lump I've ever used was Ozark Oak. Sadly it's really no longer available.

Now I use B&B.

There's still some 10 lb & 20 lb bags of Ozark Oak lump charcoal available on Amazon. Too pricey for me though. But comparable to the $/lb for Jealous Devil charcoal on Amazon.

I’ve used red oak and mainly jealous devil ever since I called their customer service line and spoke to their president of their company. Great to talk to and gave me a deal on a pallet of their stuff. I’ve got 9 bags left so I’ll have to buy another next year for sure.
