I've been checking them out on youTube, looks like a much better option than a torch or a cutoff grinder. I did my first one with a torch. I'm a pretty fair hand with it, but it didn't come too smooth. Looking to try something else on my next build. Plasma is more than I want to spend.
I jumped ahead in the attached video to where he's cutting 3/8 plate.

The metal saw like that these days are darned impressive. I’d set up a guide to run the shoe against for straightness and you could do the same with a torch.
One thing about those metal saws, loud and messy. The chips they fling are super hot and fly far. I’d wear gloves, long sleeves, goggles, face shield, dust mask, foam ear plugs and over the ear protection. Or just use the torch

Right, because the torch doesn't throw any hot stuff at all!

I just got the saw in and tried it out, it's pretty awesome! No doubt , it's loud, and it throws some chips, but the guard catches a lot of them. And fast??? I just cut through a 3X2 rectangular tubing in about 5 seconds! Way faster than a cutoff grinder, better cut, too. Straight and nice, tight kerf.
I wanted to get this to make more professional looking cuts on my next build, that I intend on trying to sell. I don't care if my own personal smoker has rough cuts, but one that's for sale needs to look nice, IMO.
This is the one I bought, I reckon it's going to save me a lot of time on cutting and grinding.

Nice.
On pieces I build, whether for myself or to sell, I try to round off any corner or edge that could snag someone’s skin or clothing. Use anti spatter spray before or go after any weld BBs with a chisel. Welds don’t have to be ground down but at least run a wire wheel over them. I’d do a final test and take a glove off and run my bare hand over and address any areas that felt rough. Make anything that could wear out serviceable. People do notice and appreciate little details like that.

It has some disadvantages, to be sure. Not much good on small pieces, because you can't see where the blade is when you start up, it's all covered up by the guards. But for long straight cuts on plate, like a plate firebox - this thing is going to be golden. Getting a plunge cut started on the doors might be a little tricky, but once you do get going, piece of cake. And, it does throw a lot of chips.

That Makita saw a lot of service back in the day on many a builds by friends with no torch or plasma. It does a good job.

One of the best things I ever bought, way better than a torch. I like those nice straight cuts.
