Sorry. At least now you know it wasn't the chimney.

How are you going to cut the firebox off, grinder or torch?

You might want to think about installing some tuning plates while you're at it. Things are going to get real hot on the firebox side of your cook chamber, the tuning plates even out the heat across the whole cook chamber.

Phew, I need to get out there and do something with those ugly welds.

Why you got that big metal plate at the back of grill?

And if i dont lift firebox and just make 2 inch box on top does it make a trick? The air inlet will be bigger but the burning wood will be in the same level?

I put that in there as a water tank, to make steam to keep things moist. I welded it all in, then I had to cut that big plate back off because the floor of the tank was leaking. I had tried to weld it with MIG and it was full of porosity that you couldn't see, but it didn't hold water. So I had to take the TIG and wash over the welds to bake out all the gas pockets. I welded over that ugly horizontal weld with TIG this morning, it looks a whole lot nicer, now.

This is great. I was thinking about making a formula to post but this is even better! The formula would have been long & complicated I think.

WOOHOO!!! You got it going on, now! Now put some meat in there.

May I suggest a digital thermometer to keep an eye on your heat?

I would cut that plate out of the bottom of the firebox and build a grate of some kind in there for your wood to sit on. That's obstructing your airflow, too. But, you say it's working, so what do I know. Rock on! The firebox is oversized anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I don't even use vents, I just leave the door cracked open some. Don't see why you couldn't put your vent there, though.
