i just bought this online for 29.99 . hard to find the tel tru thermometers for cheap. they are made in usa and well built, recommended to me by a stiles switch Houston Texas pit master.

i used an old bottom of a '14 inch portable weber grill 'as my fire basket. i drilled holes out in the bottom for air flow . pictures attached below .
it works well . but if i was going to make one again i would build one out of wire using bolts etc etc
nice plans here

above is the finished product with 1200f black bbq paint by krylon. i used some spare legs from my 'old smokey ' grill and a tel'tru bbq gauge. i will be making a inlet for a digital thermometer soon.

update im having some smoke leakes/air leaks on the lid...
i ended up buying a fireplace sealant / Rope Caulk to put around the lid.
still having minor leaks but i believe it is also making the temp get too high so i went online and im going to go with Lavalock bbq Lid Clamps (side mount horizontal) . 2 on both sides.
Because... when i just take the palm of my hand and Press down on the lid ALL the smoke leaks stop immediately.... so i figure 2 will be good.
