Seasoned my UDS

Postby TwoGuysBBQ » Tue Jan 08, 2019 8:04 pm

I sprayed the inside of my drum this morning with Pam cooking spray “don’t tell my wife” then loaded my 12”X12”X12” charcoal basket 1/2 way with B&B lump. Dumped 1/2 a charcoal chimney in it and stood back, with the 3 ball valves open it took an hour to hit 300. I closed one of the ball valves and left and the temp held at 300 for 6 hours before dropping to 250. At the 8 hour mark it was at 200 with just a handful of lump left in the basket.
So I’m thinking with a full basket, I should get 10\12 hour burn times?
Two important things here, first there was no meat on the unit. This may effect temps?
Second is I’ve never ever used a UDS before, which is why I wanted this unit. Actually wanted a PIt Barrell but it cost to much.
That said I probably spent as much on this build :banghead:

You really did build a quality pit. I had the itch pretty bad to build one before I got my smoker. I might still for camping / tailgating and just to say I did.
