Cleaning a UDS

Postby TwoGuysBBQ » Sun Feb 10, 2019 10:06 pm

What’s the best way to clean a UDS? How often do you do it?
I heard that an oil dry or absorbent in the bottom of the UDS makes for an easy clean up. Anyone ever hear this or use this method?

watching your experience from a far...
I have in the past had a old Smokey electric power mini drum, long story short, dont have it any more it came with some sort of clay like liter absorbent what I read in the past was cat litter would work as long as it was chemical free, so that leads me to ponder if the absorbent for grease and oil garage floors will work? waiting for the "pro UDSers" to comment on this....

Total Novice Here but it seems to me that a made to fit pan in the bottom that could be removed and cleaned periodically or even a layer of foil for several cooks would be "safer" and better :dont:

I've got a large pizza pan attached to the bottom of my basket to catch ashes and most drippings, then i just hit it with the spray nozzle on the water hose every 2-3 cooks to get whatever makes it to the bottom of the barrel
