Grillgrate Custom Fit? Not for the Camp Chef Woodwind

Postby Charger707 » Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:06 am

So I am not bashing the product. Have not even used it. Just got delivered yesterday.

I was under the impression it would fit the specific grill/smoker you order for.

I would like feed back on your experience and if I am just being too picky with the fit?

First the sear box. Lid would not close unless I removed the factory grate. Then it still left a gap shown in the pic.

Second...well the pictures say it all. What has everyone else done?

I understand I don't want to cook outside of the drip pan however this doesn't even cover that.

Camp chef looked at the pictures and confirmed this is all by design.

They intend for the grates to only be used when using direct heat otherwise removed for normal use...If I had understood I would not have spent the money.
Since I have them I am going to keep them.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Grill grates fit the hole they aren't meant to be used with your original grates as they are not needed unless you need your origional to support them. I have several sets of Grill grates for different applications and love them and prefer them over the origional. Some applications like Weber Kettles and Eggs need the original grate to support the Grill Grates but Camp Chef and other brands have rails.
You can add another grate in this pic.

They also offer 2" gap grates.
Always remember slow and steady wins the race.
